Axtell
(McLennon County, Texas,USA) CV3.0 (stone)
Found 1943
A single stone weighing 6.2kg was ploughed up in a field in 1943, and sat on the porch of a rancher's home for many years until finally being recognised as a new meteorite in 1993. Small splashes of paint lay on the outer crust of the stone, gained through many years of house painting. This is a classic "door-stop" meteorite and one of the most interesting carbonaceous chondrites ever found.
